Another week at WWA

Friday again!

It’s been another busy week for the team, we’ve been out and about supporting women, children and young people in the community as well as seeing women at our office and supporting women and families in our safe accommodation.

Two staff members attended training in Dumfries, a welcome return to face to face multi agency training.

Thanks to Mother’s Union in Castle Douglas for the fantastic donation of toiletry bags which will be distributed to women and families.

Our Community Engagement Worker met up with S2 young people from Douglas Ewart High School who are taking part in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative and have chosen Wigtownshire Women’s Aid as their charity. The winning charity will win £3000. Good luck to all pupils taking part.

Everything we do is with the aim of supporting women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse and this week one of our Outreach team received this lovely card and some chocolates as a thank you from a lady she supported. Thank you to the lady for her kind words and we wish her a lifetime free of abuse.

What about children? How does living in a household where there is domestic abuse impact on children and young people?
If you are interested in enhancing your understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and how Wigtownshire Women’s Aid supports women, children and young people experiencing it, get in touch.

Another busy week at the office

It’s Friday again, the weeks are rolling round and the talk in the office is turning to the festive season.

It’s always a hectic time for us and it’s looking like this year will be busier than ever.

Our Crisis team continue to respond to new referrals as well as support women already in the service.

Our Outreach team are busy supporting women in the community and our Children and Young People workers have been out and about supporting young people.

Our safe accommodation is full and we are currently running a waiting list but telephone or face to face support is always available to women experiencing domestic abuse.

Awareness raising sessions were delivered to a small group of Police staff from across Wigtownshire as well as a fantastic informal session with young women from Better Lives Partnership.

Whatever the weekend brings, hope it’s filled with everything you enjoy.

#NOTINOURNAME

Copied from Rape Crisis Scotland
Today the Scottish Parliament has the chance to reject the UK Government’s cruel Nationality and Borders Bill.
We’ve written a statement with Scottish Refugee Council, Just Right Scotland and more than 60 Scottish organisations from across the women’s, refugee and traficking, homelessness and children’s sectors to ask MSPs to say clearly: not in our name
